Backpacking Checklist

Backpacking Checklist, Backpacking Gear List, Backpacking GearBackpacking checklist. One of the benefits to hiking as a couple is the ability to share the load. While our gear on any given hike can depend on many factors, the following is a general list of items we use often when hiking in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Many, if not all, of our adventures begin around 10,000′ and can exceed 14,000′. Weather and seasonal changes greatly effect what we carry.

Choosing the right gear will not only provide proper protection, but comfort and an enjoyable outing. Become familiar with your gear and how to use it BEFORE hitting the trail. Always be prepared for the unknown, wildlife, weather changes, forest fires, lack of water, injuries, alien invasion, zombie attack, etc. You never know when a day hike could become an overnight hike or worse yet, a survival situation. Education and preparedness is peace of mind.
